AI dropshipping is using AI agents to do the repetitive jobs of a dropshipping or print on demand store: finding product ideas, drafting listings, checking for trademark conflicts, tracking orders and counting profit. It does not remove the supplier, the marketplace fees or the refunds. This page sorts the jobs into what an agent can do alone, what should wait for your approval, and what no tool should promise.
We build Slop City, so the examples use how it handles each job. The same split applies to any tool.
Which dropshipping jobs can an AI agent do?
| Job | Fine to automate? | What stays with you |
|---|---|---|
| Spotting niches and product ideas | Yes | Deciding which idea is worth a test |
| Drafting titles, tags and descriptions | Yes | Reading the final text before it goes live |
| First-pass trademark check on a slogan or name | Yes, as a filter | The decision to sell. A check is not legal advice |
| Making the artwork (print on demand) | Yes, as a draft | Approving the file |
| Publishing a listing | Only with approval | Approval, until you trust the results |
| Ordering stock or paying a supplier | Only with a spending limit | The limit |
| Tracking orders and shipping status | Yes | Answering the customer |
| Profit and loss per product | Yes | Checking the cost inputs are real |
The pattern: let an agent prepare, and keep a human on anything that publishes, spends or makes a legal call.
Which jobs should wait for your approval?
Anything that cannot be undone cheaply. A published listing with the wrong trademark, a supplier order that you did not want, or a refund policy you did not read all cost money or standing on a marketplace.
In Slop City each building is one job (Observatory for ideas, Studio for artwork, Customs House for IP checks, Factory and Harbor for making and listing, Bank for profit). By default each one asks at the Town Hall before a design moves on. Auto mode, where a building acts without asking, is switched off by default and is available on the City and Metropolis plans only. Writes made through the API or MCP never publish, order or spend by themselves.
What does an IP check actually tell you?
It tells you which ideas look risky before you pay for artwork. It does not tell you an idea is safe. A trademark can cover a phrase on shirts in one country and not another, and a check can miss a recent filing. Treat a clean result as "no obvious problem found", then use the trademark risk checker or a registry search before you list. The longer version is in Can I sell a phrase on a t-shirt?.
Does AI change the margins?
Not directly. A supplier still charges for the product and shipping, and the marketplace still takes its fees. The margin you keep comes from price, refund rate and ad cost, which an agent can track but not change by itself. Work it out with the dropship margin calculator or read Dropshipping Profit Margin After Shipping and Fees before you pay for any tool.
What AI does change is time per product: the research, drafting and bookkeeping that used to take an evening can be prepared in minutes, which lets you test more ideas for the same effort.
What does it cost?
Slop City is $49 a month (Outpost: 1 city, 2 stores, 50 credits a month), $99 (City: 3 cities, 6 stores, 100 credits, auto mode, API and MCP access) or $149 (Metropolis: 6 cities, unlimited stores, 150 credits). Annual billing is $470, $950 and $1,430. Credits pay for AI work such as generating designs; plan credits lapse at the end of the period. Compare this to the hours you spend on the same jobs, and to the other tools listed on alternatives.
