How it works

1. Open your artwork and note its width and height in pixels, or pick the image file here to read them in your browser.
2. Press Check print size.
3. Read the verdict and the effective dpi when the design fills the print area.
4. If it is soft, make the file larger. The result tells you the pixel size to aim for.

Questions

What resolution do I need for a Printful t-shirt?

Printful recommends 150 dpi or more at print size, and 300 dpi for the sharpest result. The 3001 front print area is 12 x 16 inches, so a file of 3600 x 4800 pixels reaches 300 dpi when it fills the area.

Does the dpi stored in my file matter?

No. Only the pixel count matters. The same 3000 x 3000 pixel file is 300 dpi at 10 inches or 150 dpi at 20 inches.

Is my image uploaded when I pick a file?

No. Choosing a file only reads its pixel size inside your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Can I make a small image print larger?

No. Upscaling adds pixels but not detail, and changing the DPI tag only relabels the same pixels. Redraw or regenerate the art at the target pixel size.
